Stuff to do in the area
There are a number of options to explore in the area. Below is just a sample of what is available for those wishing to put down their books, stop watching the bird life and to get out and about.
Wine Tasting
Visit Raka Wines nestled in the Kleinrivier Mountains, Boschrivier Wines Estate in the Mountains, Stanford Hills Estate situated on teh historic Weltevrede Farm, Brunai Wines alongside the Salmonsdam Nature Reserve.
Guided Horse Trails
On offer are rides ranging from 1 hour to three days. Being based in Stanford, gives access to the Kleinrivier mountains, the river, the coastline, dune and fynbos eco-systems. Horses used are South African crossbreeds being: Boerperd, Saddlers and Arabs.
River Cruises
The source of the Klein River starts in the Hemel en Aarde Valley in Hermanus on the farm called Diep Gat. It flows all the way behind the Klein River Mountains, turns near Caledon, flows through the rich Akkedisberg Pass, into Stanford and 15 km later joins the lagoon of Hermanus where it eventually reaches the sea.
Micro Breweries
Probably the most well known is the Birkenhead Brewery, but you will also find not only other startups but Gin and Vodka Distilleries in and around the area.
Stanford Markets
On the last Friday of the month from September to May you can visit the Evening Market located on the Village Green.
Mountain Trails
For those keen to enjoy the fresh air and stretch their legs, there are a number of trails in the area including Salmonsam Mountain Trail and Waterfall Trail, Fynbos Trail and hiking on the Mosaic Sanctuary.
Spas
Tucked within the ancient milkwood groves of Mosaic Sanctuary, Mosaic Rain Spa offers guests and visitors a range of pampering treatments within this Overberg hideaway.
